Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder said,  “The contribution of machinery to the development of civilization is undeniable. Almost everything in our lives has revolved around the benefit of technology. One of the drivers of the current 4th industrial revolution will be mechanization. Renewable energy and sustainable energy management is one of the most important issues in engineering. We have to think about sustainable energy to meet the increasing energy demand of the country. That's why universities need to work on R&D sector along with modernization of laboratories, industry-academia collaboration and increasing research activities.”

He also said, “Regional collaboration can be much stronger than international collaboration. I believe it will be relatively simple and effective. BUET and CUET may collaborate. Our relationship is old. B is followed by C. The name of CUET comes after BUET. Exchange programs, teacher-student exchanges and joint research programs can be extended through bilateral agreements between BUET and CUET. Only then the universities and the students will reach the desired goal.”

The BUET VC expressed his views while speaking as the the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the ‘7th International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Renewable Energy; ICMERE-2023’ held at the Central Auditorium of CUET on Thursday (16 November 2023) organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology-CUET.

CUET Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam was present as the guest of honor at the conference. While the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir; Chairman of the Occupational Safety Board of Bangladesh, Engineer Md. Hafizur Rahman and Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering Professor Dr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman were present as special guests.

The Conference Chair Professor Dr. Kazi Afzalur Rahman presided over the event. Professor Van Khang and Professor Joao Leal from the University of Egder in Norway also spoke at the conference. Conference Secretary Prof. Dr. Prasenjit Das delivered his welcome speech. Shayla Shahreen Snigdha, a student of 19th batch and Ahad bin Azad, a student of 20th batch of Mechanical Engineering Department conducted the program.

While speaking as the guest of honor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said, “The role of mechanical engineers is important in meeting the challenges of the 4th industrial revolution. Modernization in the fields of mechanics, mecha-electronics, manufacturing, transport etc. with the help of machinery will greatly advance the standard of living. Renewable energy will help our development to be sustainable. Mechanical engineers will also play a role in building the new vision of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Smart Bangladesh. I believe that this international conference of CUET will bring fruitful output with the participation of domestic and foreign researchers and teachers.”

At least three hundred teachers, researchers, scientists, professionals and entrepreneurs from about 11 countries of the world including America, Australia, India, Norway, Russia, United Kingdom, Malaysia are participating in this three-day long conference. In the conference important papers will be presented on the topic of mechanical engineering as well as on the current global issue of “Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development”.

This year's conference will have 8 keynote speeches, 6 invited speeches, 14 technical sessions and a plenary session. A total of 134 articles are being presented including 72 in 7 sessions on the first day and 62 in 7 sessions on the second day.

On November 17 (Friday) 2023 AD, the closing ceremony will be held at the Council Room of the Administrative Building at 7:00 pm. Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam will be present as the chief guest on that event while the Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir and the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman.will be present as special guests.
